NEW DELHI, May 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reached out to Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader and former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to personally enquire about his health condition after he was hospitalised in Kuwait due to illness. Azad, who is part of a high-level multi-party delegation touring world capitals to counter Pakistan’s propaganda on terrorism, reportedly took ill during the official visit and was admitted to a hospital for medical care.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Modi spoke directly to Azad, expressing concern over his sudden illness and conveying his heartfelt wishes for a speedy and full recovery. The gesture was seen as a mark of respect for Azad’s longstanding public service and his role in the current international outreach initiative.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, who is leading the delegation that includes Azad, confirmed on Tuesday that the senior leader is in stable condition and is being kept under close medical observation. He praised Azad for his significant contributions to the delegation’s engagements, especially during their meetings in Bahrain and Kuwait, noting that Azad’s insights and experience had made a substantial impact. Panda added that Azad was disappointed to be confined to a hospital bed at such a critical time in the diplomatic mission.
The delegation, one of seven multi-party groups currently stationed in various countries, is part of a strategic diplomatic effort launched by the Indian government following a recent spike in cross-border tensions. The initiative was triggered by a four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan in May, which came in the wake of the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The coordinated outreach aims to present India’s case to the global community and to firmly expose Pakistan’s continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.
These delegations have been tasked with correcting misleading narratives and countering Pakistani propaganda portraying India as the aggressor. They are engaging with international governments, think tanks, and civil society groups to highlight Pakistan’s direct involvement in supporting terror networks that operate against India.
The team led by Baijayant Panda is covering key strategic countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria. Their discussions have focused on India’s unwavering stance of zero tolerance toward terrorism and the importance of global cooperation in isolating nations that shelter and promote such activities.
