Priyanka Chaturvedi Urges Civil Aviation Minister to Address IndiGo Flight Disruptions in Rajya Sabha

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP urges Civil Aviation Minister to address massive cancellations and operational chaos affecting passengers nationwide

New Dehli, Dec 05 : Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday submitted a notice under Rule 180 in the Rajya Sabha, urging Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to make a statement regarding the ongoing disruptions in IndiGo airlines’ operations, which have caused widespread inconvenience to passengers across India.

In her notice, Chaturvedi highlighted the sharp rise in flight cancellations, which have reached approximately 170–200 daily, far exceeding normal levels. She described the situation as a matter of “urgent public importance” affecting passenger safety and convenience.

“The widespread disruption in IndiGo operations on Wednesday, including delays of up to seven hours and over 70 cancellations nationwide at major airports such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, has caused significant hardship for passengers. Key domestic and international routes, including the Mumbai-Maldives flight, were severely affected,” Chaturvedi wrote.

She stressed the urgent need for government intervention, accountability measures, and safeguards to prevent future disruptions, requesting that the Minister make a statement in the Rajya Sabha at the earliest.

The operational turmoil stems from a combination of factors, including crew shortages, transitional challenges in implementing Phase 2 of the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules, and winter-season operational constraints. These revised fatigue-management norms, enforced following court directions, came into effect in two stages on July 1 and November 1, 2025.

Earlier, IndiGo sought temporary operational exemptions from certain FDTL provisions for its A320 fleet until February 10, 2026, assuring the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that stable operations would be restored by that date. A DGCA review meeting confirmed that corrective measures were underway to mitigate passenger inconvenience while maintaining safety standards.
