Priyanka Gandhi Criticizes Centre’s Wayanad Landslide Relief Package, Calls It “Neglect”

Congress leader criticizes insufficient Rs 260 crore aid against Kerala’s Rs 2,221 crore demand, calls for urgent action and justice for victims

New Delhi, 04-010-2025: Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has sharply criticized the Central government for its inadequate response to the recent landslide disaster in Kerala’s Wayanad district. While the state government requested Rs 2,221 crore to fund relief and reconstruction efforts, the Centre sanctioned only Rs 260 crore, drawing widespread condemnation.

Priyanka Gandhi said on X, “The people of Wayanad faced a devastating tragedy that demanded compassion, fairness, and urgent relief… What they received instead was neglect. Relief and rehabilitation must rise above politics. Human suffering cannot be treated as a political opportunity, and the people of Wayanad deserve nothing less than justice, support, and dignity.”

The landslide has caused significant devastation, with hundreds of lives lost and thousands displaced. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed concern over the delay in the disbursement of the sanctioned funds and reiterated demands for the disaster to be declared a national calamity, along with loan waivers for survivors.

The state government’s appeal and Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks underscore the urgent need for greater accountability and sufficient support for the victims of Wayanad’s landslide.
