Proofpoint Launches AI Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, Plans to Hire 200 Engineers

The cybersecurity company is expanding its India operations with a new engineering hub in Hyderabad and a Delhi office amid rising demand for AI-powered security solutions.

NEW DELHI, Aug 19: Global cybersecurity company Proofpoint has established an AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad as part of a major expansion of its India operations. The company plans to recruit more than 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months.

The new facility will focus on developing next generation technologies designed to address emerging cybersecurity risks associated with artificial intelligence. The hiring programme is expected to strengthen Proofpoint’s engineering capabilities and support the company’s growing business in India.

Proofpoint said its India business has tripled over the past year, supported by double digit growth in new customer acquisitions. The company has been serving Indian customers for several years through its Asia-Pacific and Japan organisation, regional sales teams and channel partners.

In March 2025, Proofpoint established a dedicated India team as demand for its cybersecurity products increased. The company said the latest investments reflect the continued momentum of its business in the country.

“We are now expanding further with a new AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, a new Delhi office, and continued investment in sales, customer success, technical support and our partner ecosystem,” Proofpoint CEO Sumit Dhawan said.

The company said the Hyderabad centre will concentrate on AI security engineering and technologies aimed at protecting organisations against evolving threats linked to artificial intelligence.

Alongside the engineering expansion, Proofpoint is opening a new office in Delhi to strengthen its go to market operations. The facility will complement its existing presence in Bengaluru and its Centre of Excellence in Pune.

The Pune centre currently has more than 550 employees, highlighting the growing importance of India within Proofpoint’s global operations.

The expansion comes as businesses increasingly adopt generative AI and other artificial intelligence tools, creating new security challenges around data protection, identity, phishing, social engineering and AI-enabled cyber threats.

Proofpoint’s increased investment in engineering, customer support and sales is aimed at helping organisations address these emerging risks while allowing the company to expand its presence in India’s rapidly developing cybersecurity market.

With the Hyderabad centre and Delhi office, Proofpoint is positioning India as an important base for its AI security development and broader regional growth strategy.
