05-07-2023 : In Baramulla district, a shocking incident came to light when the police busted a prostitution racket, resulting in the arrest of six individuals, including two women. The operation was carried out based on credible information received by the Baramulla Police, indicating that certain individuals were involved in immoral activities at a rented house near Bus Stand Baramulla.
Taking swift action, the police, led by Inspector Vilayat Hussain, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Baramulla, and under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Hqrs Baramulla, Sh. Altaf Ahmad, successfully exposed the prostitution ring. The key figures behind the racket were identified as Lateef Ahmad Chechi, son of Mohammad Younis Chechi, a resident of Malangam Bandipora, who was the tenant of the rented house, and Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar, hailing from Kralhar Baramulla. Alongside them, Khurshid Ahmad Chechi, son of Abdul Rashid Chechi, from Malangam Bandipora, and Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Saifuddin Khan, residing in Qazi Hamam Baramulla, were also apprehended. Moreover, two female sex workers, whose identities have been withheld, were detained as part of the operation.
Following the raid, a case under sections 3, 4, and 8 of the Illicit Trafficking Prevention Act was registered at the Police Station Baramulla, marked as FIR No. 136/2023. The charges are related to illicit trafficking, which indicates the involvement of these individuals in the unlawful activities of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
This incident has caused significant concern in the local community, and authorities are likely to conduct a thorough investigation to understand the extent of the prostitution network and uncover any potential collaborators or beneficiaries involved. Prostitution is illegal in India, except in certain specific circumstances, and its operation is considered a severe violation of human rights.
