SRINAGAR, Mar 2: Protests continued for the second consecutive day across multiple parts of Kashmir on Monday following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Security forces used mild measures to control crowds in some areas, officials said.
Demonstrations were reported in Bemina, Gund Hassibhat, and Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar, as well as in Pulwama town in south Kashmir. Large groups of Shia residents marched through streets, chanting slogans condemning the US and Israel.
In certain locations, authorities resorted to mild force to disperse the protesters and maintain law and order. The unrest follows Khamenei’s death in joint US-Israel airstrikes in Iran on Saturday, confirmed by Iranian state media on Sunday.
Tensions in the region have escalated further as Iran retaliates by launching missiles toward Israel and several Arab nations, raising concerns of broader conflict in West Asia.
