Punjab and Haryana High Court Bars Further Parole for Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim, Orders Surrender by March 10

Punjab, 29-02-2024 : The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a stern directive regarding the repeated parole grants to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, currently serving a 20-year jail term for a rape case. Expressing deep concern, the court has firmly stated that Ram Rahim will no longer be eligible for parole. This decision comes in light of his recent 50-day parole granted in January, marking his seventh such release in a span of just 10 months and the ninth in the last four years.

The High Court’s order mandates that Ram Rahim must surrender himself by March 10, signaling an end to his frequent temporary releases. Additionally, the court has instructed the Haryana government to obtain prior approval from the judiciary before considering any further parole requests for the convict. This move underscores the court’s resolve to ensure stringent adherence to legal protocols and prevent potential misuse of parole privileges.
