Punjab Assembly LPG Protest: BJP Accuses AAP of Political Theatrics

Ashwani Sharma Accuses AAP Lawmakers of Undermining Constitutional Dignity with Political Stunts

Chandigarh – Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma has strongly condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for staging a protest inside the state assembly, accusing its legislators of engaging in “theatrics” that undermine constitutional decorum.

The protest unfolded after AAP lawmakers wore vests bearing slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, holding him responsible for the ongoing national LPG crisis. In a written statement to the assembly speaker, Sharma, the BJP MLA from Pathankot, questioned why such a display was allowed, emphasizing that using the legislative floor for political stunts violates established parliamentary norms.

“What happened inside the House was against the dignity of the Constitution,” Sharma said, urging the speaker to consider disciplinary action and maintain the assembly as a platform for serious public discourse rather than partisan messaging.

The incident highlights the intensifying blame game over fuel shortages and rising costs in Punjab. While AAP attributes the crisis to the central government, BJP leaders insist such protests disregard the rules and decorum of the legislative assembly. The speaker has not yet decided whether the protesting members will face penalties.
