Punjab origin entrepreneur succumbs to injuries after brutal assault in Canada

55 year old Arvi Singh Sagoo succumbed to injuries five days after being attacked by a stranger who was urinating on his car; police confirm incident was random and unprovoked.

Punjab, Oct 31 : A 55 year old Punjab origin businessman, Arvi Singh Sagoo, died in hospital on October 24, five days after he was brutally assaulted in Edmonton, Canada, following a confrontation with a stranger who was urinating on his car.

The incident occurred in the early hours of October 19, when Sagoo and his girlfriend were returning to their vehicle after dinner, according to media reports. The tragic assault comes just days before another Punjab origin industrialist, Ludhiana born Darshan Singh Sahsi (68), was shot dead in Abbotsford on October 27. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, recently designated a terror entity by the Canadian government, has claimed responsibility for Sahsi’s killing.

Witnesses said Sagoo confronted the man, asking, “Hey, what are you doing?” to which the stranger allegedly replied, “Whatever I want,” before punching Sagoo in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

Paramedics arrived at the scene near 109 Street and 100 Avenue around 2:20 am and found Sagoo unresponsive. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and placed on life support. Despite extensive medical efforts, Sagoo succumbed to his injuries on October 24, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) confirmed.

Police described the incident as random and unprovoked, confirming that there was no prior connection between Sagoo and the attacker. The suspect, Kyle Papin (40), has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 4, police said.

Sagoo’s family described him as a respected businessman and community member. His brother told Global News that Sagoo’s actions stemmed from a sense of responsibility to protect his property, calling the attack “sudden and senseless.”

EPS said the investigation remains ongoing and urged any additional witnesses to come forward with information.
