Punjab Police Bust Cross Border Arms and Narcotics Smuggling Network

Three arrested, 10 pistols and opium seized in Amritsar as police trace links to Pakistan based handlers

Chandigarh, Oct 15: Punjab Police have busted a cross-border organised arms and narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan, arresting three suspects in Amritsar, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the police recovered 10 sophisticated pistols and 500 grams of opium from the accused. Preliminary investigations suggest that the group was part of an inter district smuggling network operating under the direction of a Pakistan-based handler.

“The seized weapons were intended for supply to gangsters and criminals to fuel unlawful activities across Punjab,” DGP Yadav said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

An FIR has been registered at the Sadar Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the wider network, including its backward and forward linkages, police said.

Authorities believe the crackdown will significantly disrupt cross-border smuggling routes used for trafficking arms and narcotics into Punjab.
