Punjab, Aug 04 : Punjab Police have dismantled two cross-border terror networks allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), arresting nine individuals, including four juveniles, in a major counter-terrorism operation in Amritsar.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on Tuesday, stating that the operation led to the seizure of three illegal pistols, four petrol bombs, and nine live cartridges. The recoveries were made during coordinated raids conducted by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused were allegedly operating under the directions of foreign-based handlers linked to the ISI. Police said the network was attempting to recruit local youth for activities including reconnaissance of sensitive security locations, procurement of illegal firearms, and execution of plans aimed at disturbing public order.
Investigators also uncovered evidence suggesting that surveillance cameras had been installed near railway tracks. The footage captured through these devices was allegedly transmitted to handlers based outside India, raising concerns over attempts to monitor critical infrastructure.
Police have registered separate FIRs at the Mohkampura, Airport, and C-Division police stations in Amritsar under relevant provisions of law. Authorities are examining digital evidence and interrogating the arrested suspects to determine the full extent of the network’s operations.
The ongoing investigation is focused on identifying additional members of the alleged terror modules, tracing financial transactions, and uncovering forward and backward linkages with foreign operatives. Officials are also probing whether the accused were connected to any previous terror-related incidents or wider cross-border conspiracies.
Punjab Police said efforts are continuing to dismantle the remaining elements of the network and strengthen security measures against cross-border terror activities.
