Punjab Police nab Gangster Goldy Brar’s parents in 2004 ransom and threat case

Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur taken into custody for alleged involvement in extortion plot linked to Bambiha gang

Punjab, Jan 27: The parents of gangster Goldy Brar, Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, were arrested on Monday in connection with a ransom threat case dating back to 2004, officials said. The couple, residents of Adesh Nagar in Sri Muktsar Sahib, were taken into custody following an FIR registered on December 3, 2024.

The FIR, lodged under Sections 308(4), 351(1), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was filed by a local education department employee who alleged that he received multiple threatening WhatsApp calls from a foreign number. The caller, claiming affiliation with the Bambiha group, demanded Rs 50 lakh and warned of dire consequences for the complainant and his family if the ransom was not paid.

The complainant reported receiving repeated calls on November 27 and December 3, 2024, leaving him in a state of fear and mental distress. He, along with his brother, approached the Sadar Police Station in Sri Muktsar Sahib, seeking strict legal action against the unknown caller.

Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana confirmed the arrests, stating that the accused were apprehended from a hotel near Amritsar’s Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple). “At the time of the FIR, the Bambiha gang and Goldy Brar were reportedly operating together,” Rana said, adding that the parents allegedly had no legitimate income and were surviving on money obtained through ransom activities.

The arrested couple is scheduled to be produced before the Muktsar court on Tuesday morning.
