Chandigarh, July 11: Punjab’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has achieved a significant milestone, with more than one crore enumeration forms successfully digitised within 16 days of the exercise, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra announced on Saturday.
The rapid progress in the voter list revision process reflects the large-scale efforts being undertaken by election officials, field-level officers and citizens to ensure that electoral records remain accurate, updated and transparent.
According to the CEO, nearly the entire electorate has been covered during the initial phase, with 99.34 per cent of enumeration forms already distributed among voters across the state.
The digitisation of these forms is considered a crucial component of the SIR process as it helps verify voter information, update electoral databases and identify discrepancies before the preparation of revised voter lists.
Election Officials Ensure Smooth Implementation Across Punjab
Mitra highlighted that the coordinated efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), supervisors, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have played an important role in achieving the milestone.
The officials have been working across all 117 Assembly constituencies and 24,453 polling stations in Punjab to facilitate the distribution, collection and online processing of enumeration forms.
The CEO said that ground-level teams have been actively engaging with voters to ensure maximum participation and timely completion of the revision exercise.
The SIR process is aimed at strengthening the electoral system by ensuring that voter records accurately represent eligible citizens and reduce the possibility of errors in electoral rolls.
Two-Day Special Camps to Boost Public Participation
To further speed up the revision process, election authorities have organised special camps across Punjab on July 11 and 12.
The camps are being conducted at all polling stations between 8 am and 3 pm, providing voters an opportunity to complete pending documentation and verify their electoral information.
During these sessions, citizens can:
Submit pending enumeration forms
Correct errors in voter details
Resolve discrepancies related to voter records
Update personal information in electoral databases
Seek assistance from election officials
Authorities expect these camps to improve public participation and help complete the remaining work within the scheduled timeline.
Over 2.14 Crore Electors Covered Under Revision Drive
The SIR exercise, which began on June 25, involves extensive door to door outreach across Punjab.
A total of 24,453 Booth Level Officers have been assigned the responsibility of connecting with more than 2.14 crore electors during the ongoing revision process.
The field officers are expected to complete the exercise by July 24, ensuring that voter details are properly collected, verified and processed.
Election authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with officials and actively participate in the verification process.
Timeline Announced for Updated Electoral Rolls
The Election Department has also released the schedule for subsequent stages of the revision exercise.
The rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, after which the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3.
Following the publication of the draft rolls, citizens will have an opportunity to submit claims and objections regarding voter details.
The period for filing claims and objections will continue from August 3 to September 2.
After receiving public feedback, election authorities will examine and dispose of the claims and objections between August 3 and September 28.
The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 1.

The Chief Electoral Officer stressed that the SIR initiative is not only a procedural exercise but also an important step towards strengthening democratic participation.
