Radha Nagpal’s ‘Beyond Borders & Boulevard’ Debuts at Ukiyoto Solstice Festival, Captivating Audiences with Historical Saga

JAMMU, Aug 31: At the recent Ukiyoto Solstice Festival held at the India International Centre, Radha Nagpal’s highly anticipated biography, “Beyond Borders & Boulevard,” was officially launched to great acclaim. The book offers a profound exploration of a multi-generational joint family, tracing its origins back to the 1920s and examining the challenges faced by its members in the aftermath of the 1947 Partition.

The narrative centers on Labhushah, the patriarch of the family, who lived in a village in Sialkot. It delves into the complexities of a patriarchal society marked by simple living, religious harmony, and strong familial ties, while also addressing the pervasive issues of gender bias, caste, creed, and superstition that characterized the era.

As the story unfolds, it captures the harrowing events of the Partition, including the dramatic and traumatic escape of the family members. Following the Partition, the focus shifts to the six daughters and one son of the family, who were nurtured in a progressive, gender-neutral, and resilient army environment. Their upbringing across diverse settings—rural villages and bustling cities—shaped them into individuals who bravely challenged societal norms and conventions regarding gender, caste, and religion.

“Beyond Borders & Boulevard” presents a richly woven tapestry of characters through various epochs, offering readers a compelling blend of love, humor, sorrow, and miraculous moments. The book’s narrative, particularly the journey of its main protagonist, resonates deeply with readers, engaging them in a powerful and evocative manner. This captivating saga not only reflects the sensibilities of a global audience but also leaves a lasting impression long after the final page is turned.
