NEW DELHI, Sept 11: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, on Thursday clarified that BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s name was added to the electoral roll of Assembly Constituency 39, Rajinder Nagar, after following the prescribed procedure.
Chadha submitted an application for inclusion through Form-6 on August 26, 2026. The Electoral Registration Officer approved the application on September 2 after completion of the mandatory seven day notice period, the Delhi CEO’s office said.
According to the clarification, once a Form-6 application is approved, the elector’s details begin appearing in the electoral database without waiting for publication of the final revised roll. The name is subsequently entered in continuation of the last serial number of the draft electoral roll.
The Delhi CEO’s office also pointed to Election Commission guidelines governing the revision of electoral rolls. The final roll is published only after the revision process concludes and claims and objections have been disposed of.
The clarification comes amid a controversy over Chadha’s voter registration in Punjab. Days earlier, he had alleged political vendetta after his name was marked as “shifted” in the state’s draft electoral roll published as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
In a post on X, Chadha said his voter ID was registered in Mohali and questioned the decision to classify his entry as “shifted” despite his being a sitting Rajya Sabha member from Punjab.
“This does not seem like a mere clerical mistake. This is a clear case of political vendetta,” Chadha alleged.
He, however, acknowledged that the entry could be corrected during the ongoing claims and objections process since the electoral rolls were still in draft form.
“Thankfully, these are only the Draft Electoral Rolls, not the Final Electoral Rolls,” he said, adding that corrections could be made under the SIR guidelines before publication of the final rolls in October 2026.
Chadha was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee in 2022 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party earlier this year.
The AAP subsequently hit back at Chadha over the voter registration controversy, alleging that he was attempting to secure voter registration in Delhi through a backdated process.
The latest clarification from the Delhi CEO’s office addresses the procedural aspect of his inclusion in the Rajinder Nagar electoral database, stating that the application was processed and approved in accordance with the applicable rules.
