Rahul Gandhi Accuses RSS-BJP of Undermining the Constitution

Congress campaign highlights constitutional values and equality ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday strongly criticised the ideological stance of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming their actions contradict the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution.

Speaking at the launch of the “Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution” marathon at Mandi House, Gandhi emphasised that the foundation of modern India rests on constitutional ideals. He said the vision of B. R. Ambedkar ensured justice and equal rights for all citizens, and any attempt to weaken these principles would harm the nation’s core identity.

Gandhi asserted that symbolic gestures of respect towards Ambedkar cannot substitute genuine commitment to constitutional values. He underlined that the Congress party’s goal is to safeguard and strengthen democratic institutions while spreading awareness about constitutional rights across the country.

The event, organised by the party’s SC department, comes in the run-up to Ambedkar Jayanti. Gandhi described the initiative as a nationwide effort to reinforce the importance of justice, equality, and social harmony.

In a social media post later, he reiterated the need for unity in defending constitutional principles, urging citizens to stand against discrimination and injustice.

Former Indian cricket captain and current Telangana minister Mohammad Azharuddin also joined the event and praised the initiative. He expressed hope that such campaigns would expand nationwide, stressing that unity remains essential for India’s progress.
