Rahul Gandhi Files Nomination Papers from Wayanad: Electoral Battle in Kerala Heats Up

WAYANAD(Kerala),03-04-2024 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi officially entered the electoral fray once again as he filed his nomination papers from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and other senior party leaders, including AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, Rahul submitted his nomination papers to the Wayanad District Collector, who also serves as the Returning Officer.

Arriving in Wayanad by helicopter, Rahul embarked on a roadshow from Kalpetta to Civil Station before reaching the District Collector’s office to formalize his candidacy. Along the route, he addressed the public, reaffirming his commitment to the people of Wayanad and promising to champion their concerns, particularly regarding issues such as human-animal conflicts prevalent in the high-range district.

As the sitting MP of Wayanad, Rahul expressed his readiness to advocate for the constituency’s issues at the national and international levels. In the upcoming elections, he will face opposition from BJP state president K Surendran and CPI leader Annie Raja. Notably, Rahul secured a significant victory in the 2019 elections, winning the Wayanad seat with a massive margin of over four lakh votes.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi garnered 7,06,367 votes out of a total of 10,92,197, with his closest competitor, CPI’s P P Suneer, receiving only 2,74,597 votes. The electoral battle in Wayanad this year is anticipated to be significant, with voting scheduled for April 26 in Kerala.
