New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday paid homage to the late Bhola Paswan Shastri, former Chief Minister of Bihar and notable freedom fighter, on his birth anniversary.
Describing Shastri as a committed Gandhian and an honest politician from the Dalit community, Rahul Gandhi lauded his lifelong dedication to social justice, education, and empowerment of marginalized groups. “Coming from the Dalit community, Bhola Paswan Ji was a true Congressman, an honest politician, and a dedicated Gandhian, who always raised his voice for social justice, education, and equal opportunities. His life and spirit of public service are an inspiration for all of us,” Gandhi stated in a post on X.
Bhola Paswan Shastri holds a pioneering place in Bihar’s political history as the state’s first Dalit Chief Minister. He played a key role in promoting social justice and equality, including the formation of the Mungeri Lal Commission, which recommended reservations for backward classes, women, and economically weaker sections in Bihar.
Rahul Gandhi’s tribute highlights the Congress party’s respect for Shastri’s contributions to Indian politics and his enduring legacy of empowerment. Across Bihar, the leader’s birth anniversary is being commemorated with programs and events celebrating his life and work.
