Rahul Gandhi Urges JKPCC Leaders to Strengthen Congress for Panchayat and Local Bodies Elections

08-08-2023 : Highlighting the urgency of countering the divisive strategies pursued by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the All India Congress Committee and a sitting Member of Parliament, convened a meeting with leaders from the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC). During the meeting held in Delhi, he urged the JKPCC leaders to intensify their efforts in preparation for the upcoming Panchayat and Local Bodies elections in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

Rahul Gandhi called upon the assembled JKPCC leaders to stand together in opposition to the BJP’s policies, which he deemed detrimental to the interests of the people and the youth. Emphasizing the need to thwart the BJP’s divisive agenda in Jammu and Kashmir, he encouraged the leaders to consolidate the party’s position and elevate their engagement, while also keeping a vigilant eye on the approaching Panchayat and Local Bodies elections.

This meeting took place in the presence of prominent Congress figures, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Rajani Patil, Rajya Sabha MP and the person in charge of J&K affairs, Manoj Yadav, AICC Joint Secretary in charge of J&K. During this gathering, Rahul Gandhi engaged with the JKPCC leaders in an extensive discussion encompassing the broader political and security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. The discussion revolved around formulating an offensive approach against the BJP due to its perceived inadequacies on multiple fronts.

The attendees at the meeting encompassed notable Congress figures such as JKPCC Chief Vikar Rasool Wani, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, former JKPCC Presidents GA Mir and Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, former Member of Parliament and AICC Member Tariq Hameed Karra, and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.

Rahul Gandhi extended his commendations to the JKPCC cadre as 21 leaders, including influential individuals from other parties, recently joined the Congress Party in Delhi. This move was perceived as a setback for the Democratic Progressive Azad Party and the Aam Aadmi Party in the region.

Wani emphasized the impact of a disconnect between the current administration and the people, resulting in restiveness among the population. Additionally, he emphasized the BJP’s alleged misgovernance and its adverse effects on the masses.

The visiting JKPCC leaders took the opportunity to congratulate Rahul Gandhi on his reinstatement as a Member of Parliament following a stay order by the Supreme Court, halting his disqualification. They commended his unwavering efforts in reinstating democracy, secularism, and unity in the country.
