Rahul Sahai, Chairman of PHDCCI Jammu Delegation Meets Commissioner of State Taxes, Discusses GST Issues and Advocates for Timely Reimbursement to Industries

Jammu, 09-01-2024 : Rahul Sahai, the Chairman of the PHDCCI Jammu Chapter, recently paid a visit to Prediman Krishan Bhat, the newly appointed Commissioner State Taxes (GST) of Jammu and Kashmir. In a gesture of congratulations, Sahai presented Bhat with a bouquet and engaged in a comprehensive discussion addressing various challenges faced by dealers in Jammu concerning the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Accompanying Sahai were Raj Dua, Co-Chair of PHDCCI Jammu, along with Kuldeep Gupta, Chaitanya Sharma, and Pursharth Sharma, the Resident Executive of PHDCCI Jammu Chapter. The meeting focused on several critical issues impacting businesses in the region.

One of the primary concerns raised by Sahai was the delayed reimbursement under the GST scheme, particularly affecting existing industries. Emphasizing that the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) reimbursement is a crucial incentive for these industries, Sahai stressed the importance of ensuring timely disbursement. Additionally, he highlighted the challenges faced by auto dealers and urged the creation of a one-time window for submitting E-Invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal (IRO) for the generation of Invoice Registration Numbers (IRP). Sahai proposed the formation of an advisory committee comprising prominent organizations to foster smoother working relationships between industries and the GST Department.

Another significant issue highlighted by Sahai was the untimely processing of GSTR-1, causing technical errors for numerous members. He urged prompt resolution to alleviate the difficulties faced by businesses.

Commissioner PK Bhat patiently listened to the concerns raised by the PHDCCI Jammu delegation. Acknowledging the relevance of these issues, Bhat assured that he would make efforts to address them promptly. He particularly emphasized the need for timely reimbursement of SGST, acknowledging the constraints related to available funds in treasuries. Bhat committed to communicating with the government to expedite the release of necessary funds. Regarding the technical glitches in GSTR-1, he noted that it was a nationwide issue known to all concerned authorities. Efforts were underway to resolve it within a day or two, with due consideration for deadlines if the issues persisted.

Bhat encouraged PHDCCI to inform all dealers about the government’s amnesty scheme, emphasizing that it represents the final opportunity for dealers to maximize benefits. He shared plans to streamline inspections for industry reimbursements, reducing them from four to one in the near future. Additionally, Bhat highlighted ongoing efforts to introduce beneficial schemes for dealers, aiming to facilitate rather than harass them. He affirmed the commitment to tax collection through data, not inspections, and reiterated the department’s openness to addressing any problems faced by businesses.

Bhat also mentioned the Chief Secretary, Sh. Atal Duloo, expressing his keen interest in the holistic development of the state across all levels. He shared that steps were being taken to boost micro-industries and tourism in the Union Territory, reflecting the administration’s commitment to comprehensive development.
