Raj Kundra Recalls Emotional Struggles During Jail Term, Says Divorce Rumours Took Heavy Toll

The businessman-turned-actor opened up about his 63-day imprisonment and the emotional impact of reports surrounding his marriage to Shilpa Shetty.

MUMBAI, Aug 18: Businessman turned actor Raj Kundra has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of his life, recalling his 63 day stay in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail and the emotional impact of rumours about his marriage to actor Shilpa Shetty.

In a recent interview, Kundra said the experience had a severe effect on both his physical and mental well-being. He recalled surviving largely on biscuits during his imprisonment and losing around 17-18 kg.

Kundra also spoke about reports claiming that Shetty would leave him while he was in custody. He said the rumours caused immense emotional distress and left him feeling that he had reached an extremely low point.

According to his account, a phone call from Shetty during his imprisonment provided reassurance and helped him cope with the situation. The couple, who married in 2009, have continued to remain in the public spotlight amid repeated speculation about their relationship.

Kundra’s reflections come years after his arrest in connection with a pornography-related case. He has since moved into entertainment, including acting, and played himself in the 2023 film UT 69, which drew on his experience in jail.

His latest comments offer a glimpse into the personal challenges he faced away from the public eye, while highlighting the impact that media reports and speculation can have on celebrities and their families.
