Rajasthan Violence: Mosque Railing Dispute in Jaipur’s Chomu Leaves Police Injured, WhatsApp Services Suspended

Stone pelting at mosque site injures six policemen, authorities deploy tear gas and conduct flag march to restore peace

Rajasthan, Dec 26 : Chomu town in Jaipur district, Rajasthan, witnessed violent clashes early Friday following a dispute over the installation of an iron railing outside a local mosque, leaving six policemen injured and prompting authorities to suspend WhatsApp and bulk messaging services as a precaution.

The incident occurred around 3 am near the Chomu bus stand when police intervened to prevent escalation. According to officials, the dispute erupted after stones, which had been removed the previous evening following a community meeting, were replaced by an attempt to erect a railing around the mosque. A section of the crowd allegedly began pelting stones at the police, causing injuries and damaging several police vehicles.

Police reinforcements from nearby stations were rushed to the scene. Mild force, including tear gas, was used to disperse the crowd, and by morning, the situation was reportedly under control. A flag march was conducted by hundreds of police personnel to reassure residents and restore public confidence.

Senior officers, including Additional Police Commissioner Dr Rajiv Pachar and DCP West Hanuman Prasad, appealed to locals to maintain peace. Authorities confirmed ongoing searches to identify the stone-pelters, with strict legal action promised against those involved.

While the internet has been restored, WhatsApp and bulk messaging services remain suspended temporarily to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain law and order.
