Rajnath Singh: Armed Forces Granted Full Autonomy During Operation Sindoor

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasizes measured response and armed forces’ autonomy during Operation Sindoor

NEW DELHI, Sept 22: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stated that the Indian armed forces were granted complete freedom to respond effectively to the April 22 terror attack on civilians in Pahalgam. Speaking to the Indian community in Rabat, Morocco, Singh emphasized that India’s actions during Operation Sindoor were “measured and non-escalatory,” reflecting a restrained approach that prioritized deeds over religion.

“Humne dharm dekh kar nahi, karm dekh kar maara hai,” Singh quoted from the Ramcharitmanas, highlighting the nation’s firm yet responsible stance. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories and concluded on May 10 following an understanding to halt military actions.

Singh also showcased India’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting its emergence as the fastest-growing major economy, the growth of the defence sector with Rs 1.5 lakh crore in production, and defence exports surpassing Rs 23,000 crore to over 100 countries. He underscored India’s digital transformation, the expanding knowledge economy, and the rise of startups from 18 unicorns a decade ago to 118 today.

During his two-day visit—the first-ever by an Indian defence minister to Morocco Singh is scheduled to meet his Moroccan counterpart Abdeltif Loudiyi. The two sides are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation, including training exchanges, industrial linkages, and joint initiatives.

Singh lauded the Indian community for their dedication and contribution to the nation, while reaffirming India’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and upholding national security with measured and strategic responses.
