Rajnath Singh Launches ‘Defence Forces Vision 2047’ Strategic Roadmap

Strategic Roadmap Aims for Future-Ready, Integrated, and Technologically Advanced Armed Forces

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday unveiled the ambitious ‘Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future Ready Indian Military’, outlining strategic reforms, capability upgrades, and organisational changes to strengthen India’s armed forces.

The release follows the May 7–10 India-Pakistan conflict, after which all three services were tasked with incorporating lessons learned to enhance operational preparedness.

The vision document focuses on transforming the military into an integrated, multi-domain, agile force capable of deterring threats and responding effectively across the full spectrum of conflict. Key elements include jointness among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, coordinated planning, advanced technological integration, and modernised training frameworks.

A core emphasis of the roadmap is Aatmanirbharta in defence, promoting indigenous technology development, self-reliance in weapon systems, and strengthening domestic defence manufacturing to improve operational readiness while boosting economic growth.

The document sets out short-, medium-, and long-term capability goals, guiding institutional reforms, strategic partnerships, and prioritised military development. It advocates a whole-of-nation approach, combining military strength with diplomacy, technology, and economic power to safeguard India’s strategic interests.

Defence officials said the vision aims to build a globally respected, combat ready, and technologically advanced military by India’s independence centenary, reinforcing the nation’s pursuit of a strong and resilient Viksit Bharat.
