Rajouri Encounter: Death Toll Rises to Five, Three Soldiers Succumb to Injuries

05-05-2023 : On Friday, the death toll in the Rajouri encounter rose to five as three injured soldiers, who were undergoing treatment at Command Hospital Udhampur, passed away. The gunfight, which took place in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the martyrdom of two soldiers and left four others injured, including an officer.

The Indian Army had been conducting intelligence-based operations to flush out terrorists who had attacked an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian. The operation was launched on May 3, and a search team made contact with a group of terrorists entrenched in a cave in the Kandi Forest in Rajouri Sector. The terrorists triggered an explosive device in retaliation, causing casualties to the Army team. The area is heavily forested with rocky and steep cliffs. Additional teams have been dispatched to the area, and the operation is ongoing.

The mobile internet service in the district has been suspended as a preventive measure. Earlier on April 20, five soldiers were martyred in a terrorist attack on an Army truck in Batadhurian area of Poonch.
