NEW DELHI, Sep 9: Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief from the Supreme Court in a cheque bounce case, with the court exempting him from surrendering subject to the deposit of Rs 5 crore with its Registry by Wednesday.
Yadav had earlier been sentenced to three months in prison in connection with the case and was given two months to settle the outstanding financial obligation.
During the latest hearing on September 8, the Supreme Court granted the actor temporary protection from surrender, while directing him to comply with the financial condition imposed by the court.
The development provides Yadav an opportunity to meet the court’s requirement and avoid immediate imprisonment.
The case relates to a financial dispute that resulted in the cheque bounce proceedings against the actor. The latest order is expected to bring temporary relief to Yadav as the legal proceedings continue.
The actor has remained a familiar face in Hindi cinema, known for his comic roles as well as supporting performances across several films.
