- Urgent Demands Raised for Irrigation Projects in Anantnag East During High-Level Meeting
Srinagar, 27-07-2025: A meeting was held today with Hon’ble Minister Sh. Javid Ahmed Rana (Jal Jeevan Mission, J&K UT) regarding the ongoing drinking water crisis and irrigation problems in the North Area of Shangus–Anantnag East Constituency, covering the villages Brah, Soonch, Rakhi Brah, Dethoo, Kawarogam, Khulchoor, and other adjoining areas.
During the meeting, Rakesh Kumar Koul, Former Sarpanch, Social Activist & Senior Journalist, apprised the Hon’ble Minister about the severe hardships faced by the local population due to scarcity of drinking water and inadequate irrigation facilities. He stressed the urgent need for a tunnel or lift irrigation project from Walenagbal to Rakhi Brah or any suitable location at Shah Kul to ensure a regular water supply to these water-deficient villages.
Rakesh Kumar Koul was accompanied by Sh. R.K. Koul (Anu Ji), a well-known Social Activist, who also supported the demand and highlighted the urgent need for government intervention to address the water scarcity in these areas.
Hon’ble Minister Sh. Javid Ahmed Rana gave a firm assurance that the matter will be taken up on a priority basis and that necessary steps will be initiated under the Jal Jeevan Mission to resolve the crisis. The Minister also emphasized that the government is committed to improving water infrastructure and ensuring that no village suffers due to water scarcity.
This assurance has brought hope and relief to the residents of the affected areas, who have been struggling with these issues for years.
