Ram Gopal Yadav Slams PM Modi, Says India Drifting Towards Monarchy

Samajwadi Party leader counters criticism over Noida, raises concerns about governance and political direction

New Delhi: Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday launched a sharp rebuttal against Narendra Modi following his remarks targeting the Samajwadi Party over alleged irregularities in Noida. The senior leader claimed that the country’s democratic framework is under strain, warning of a shift toward a system where accountability is diminishing.

His response came after the Prime Minister, while inaugurating the first phase of the Noida International Airport, criticised the Samajwadi Party’s past governance, alleging that Noida had been treated as a source of unchecked financial gain. He contrasted this with the current administration’s development-focused approach in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing reporters within the Parliament complex, Yadav dismissed the allegations and expressed concern over the broader political climate. He remarked that democratic institutions are weakening, suggesting that power is becoming increasingly centralised.

The airport project, developed under a public-private partnership model with an investment exceeding ₹11,000 crore, has been positioned as a major infrastructure milestone for the region. The Prime Minister also credited the present government for accelerating work on the project, stating that earlier administrations had delayed its progress for years.

Meanwhile, Yadav also weighed in on international politics, commenting on the future of Donald Trump. He suggested that political developments in the United States could lead to major changes in leadership following upcoming electoral cycles.

The exchange highlights continuing tensions between the ruling party and opposition leaders, with both sides intensifying their rhetoric ahead of key political developments.
