New Delhi: The legal tussle over the vast estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has intensified, with his mother Rani Kapur initiating action to remove Priya Sachdev Kapur from the RK Family Trust. The move marks a significant escalation in the ongoing family dispute surrounding assets worth an estimated ₹30,000 crore.
In a legal notice issued on March 21, Rani Kapur invoked provisions of the trust deed that allow for the removal of a trustee without assigning a reason. Priya Sachdev Kapur has been given a limited window to step down from her role. Rani Kapur has also raised objections over the ownership of certain assets, claiming they rightfully belong to her and questioning the validity of the trust arrangement.
The matter has further deepened with parallel proceedings involving Sunjay Kapur’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his previous marriage. They have approached the Delhi High Court, challenging the authenticity of a will being cited in the case. The court has allowed a forensic review to verify the legitimacy of signatures on the document.
Following Sunjay Kapur’s death in June 2025, Priya Sachdev Kapur is reported to have assumed control over key business interests, including a major automotive enterprise. However, the move has drawn objections from other family members, who allege exclusion from decision-making and inheritance claims.
The dispute underscores the complexities often associated with high-value estates, particularly when multiple stakeholders contest ownership and legal authority. With questions over documentation, trust structure and succession rights, the case is expected to remain under close legal scrutiny in the coming months.
