RBI Swap Facility Drives Forex Inflows to USD 143.6 Billion

Revised RBI figures show a USD 7.22 billion rise in total inflows, led by higher FCNR(B) deposits and ECB contributions.

New Delhi: Foreign exchange inflows under the Reserve Bank of India’s special USD-INR forex swap facility reached USD 143.60 billion by August 31, according to the latest data released by the central bank.

The revised figures show that Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank), or FCNR(B), deposits mobilised under the facility stood at USD 132.98 billion. This was around USD 5.75 billion higher than the provisional figure of USD 127.226 billion released earlier this month.

Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCBs) contributed USD 5.32 billion, while External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) brought in USD 5.296 billion. Together, these inflows took the total to USD 143.596 billion.

The earlier provisional data had estimated total inflows at USD 136.377 billion as of August 31. It had included USD 127.226 billion from FCNR(B) deposits, USD 5.26 billion from OFCBs and USD 3.891 billion through ECBs.

The revised figures therefore represent an increase of about USD 7.22 billion over the provisional total, with the major change coming from the updated FCNR(B) deposit figure and higher ECB inflows.

The RBI introduced the special USD-INR forex swap facility on June 8, 2026, covering inflows generated through FCNR(B) deposits, ECBs and OFCBs.

The window for mobilising FCNR(B) deposits remained open until August 31. However, the facility for ECBs and OFCBs will continue until December 31, 2026.

The RBI clarified that the USD 132.98 billion reported for FCNR(B) represents deposits mobilised up to August 31.
