Red Fort Blast: Over 40 Evidence Samples, Including Explosives and Cartridges, Collected from Site

Forensic experts identify ammonium nitrate among explosives, investigation continues into high intensity explosion that killed 12

New Delhi, Nov 12: The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has collected more than 40 samples, including two cartridges  one of them live and traces of two different types of explosives, from the site of Monday’s Red Fort blast, officials said on Wednesday.

Preliminary analysis indicates that one of the explosives appears to be ammonium nitrate, while the second is believed to be more powerful, pending confirmation after detailed forensic examination.

Officials said that 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was earlier recovered from Faridabad during the investigation that led to the arrest of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed, both linked to Al Falah University.

“The exact chemical composition of the second explosive will be confirmed after laboratory tests,” an official stated, adding that the cartridges were discovered during a thorough site inspection.

The high intensity explosion near the Red Fort traffic signal on Monday tore through a slow moving vehicle, claiming 12 lives and injuring several others.

A special FSL team has been constituted to expedite the analysis of the collected evidence and submit its findings at the earliest. The laboratory continues to operate round the clock since the incident to assist the ongoing investigation, officials added.
