Relief Camps Set Up Along Kedarnath Yatra route, Handlers Made Mandatory for Horses and Mules

Administration Steps Up Measures for Safer Pilgrimage

Rudraprayag: In a major move to streamline the annual pilgrimage, the district administration has deployed sector officers across the trekking path and set up multiple relief camps along the Kedarnath Yatra route. The initiative aims to reduce risks faced by pilgrims, particularly those caused by the heavy movement of horses and mules on the narrow mountain trail.

Crowded Trekking Route Raises Safety Concerns
The steep stretch from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Temple witnesses thousands of devotees each year. Horses and mules remain a primary mode of transport for many yatris, but overcrowding often leads to accidents and injuries when animals and pedestrians share the same path.
Authorities observed that unmanaged animal movement, especially in large numbers, increases the likelihood of mishaps, prompting the need for stricter regulations.

Handlers Made Compulsory for Each Animal
To tackle the issue, officials have mandated that every horse and mule must be accompanied by a trained handler. This step is intended to ensure better control over the animals, reduce chaos on the route, and improve overall safety conditions for pilgrims.
District Magistrate Vishal Mishra stated that enforcement teams have been stationed along the route to verify compliance. Animals found without handlers will not be permitted to operate.

Relief Camps and Medical Support Strengthened
Relief camps have been strategically positioned to provide immediate assistance to pilgrims. These camps offer seating facilities, rest points, and access to basic medical care.
Additionally, dedicated checkpoints have been established to monitor the health and fitness of horses and mules before they are allowed onto the trail. Officials have emphasized that these measures are part of a broader effort to create a safer and more organized pilgrimage experience.

Continuous Monitoring and Ground Inspections
The administration has initiated round the clock monitoring of the route to maintain order. Regular inspections are being conducted by senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Niharika Tomar, who recently reviewed on-ground arrangements by trekking the route herself.

Char Dham Yatra Begins with Traditional Rituals
The larger Char Dham Yatra commenced on April 19 with ceremonial rituals at multiple shrines. The journey to Kedarnath formally began with the departure of the sacred palanquin from Omkareshwar Temple.

Police Ensure Smooth Movement of Pilgrims
The Uttarakhand Police have implemented multi layered security and crowd management systems to facilitate safe movement along the pilgrimage route. Their efforts are focused on minimizing congestion and ensuring emergency readiness at all times.

Commitment to a Safer Pilgrimage Experience
Officials reiterated that the combined steps mandatory handlers, relief camps, medical checkpoints, and strict monitoring are designed to enhance safety and reduce inconvenience for devotees undertaking the sacred journey.
