Religious Bodies Unite Against Shrine Board Policies, Demand Alignment With Sanatan Dharma Values

Sangarsh Samiti Leads Joint Uprising Over Alleged Misuse of Devotee Funds at Shrine Board Institutions

JAMMU, Dec 1: In a significant development reflecting growing dissatisfaction within the religious and social fraternity of Jammu, a joint strategy meeting was convened today by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti, Sanatan Dharma Sabha, and the Jammu Kashmir Sanatan Samaj Nyas. The participating bodies came together to articulate a unified response against what they described as troubling policy decisions taken by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB).

The meeting voiced strong concern over what the leaders termed a deviation from Sanatan Dharma values in Shrine Board–run institutions, particularly the medical college under its authority. They alleged that offerings made by devotees were being misused for purposes that fail to uphold the sanctity, ethos, and cultural principles associated with the sacred shrine.

Emerging from the discussions, the leaders unanimously resolved to intensify their ongoing agitation until the Shrine Board realigns its functioning with the spiritual expectations and cultural sentiments of the Hindu community. They reiterated that institutions supported by consecrated funds from devotees must reflect the purity and purpose for which they were established.

Speaking to the media, Mahant Rameshwar Dass emphasised that when institutions funded by the faith of millions fail to uphold the very traditions they are meant to protect, it becomes a matter of deep distress for the entire community. He asserted that an immediate correction in administrative conduct and policy direction is essential to restore trust.

Echoing the sentiment, Mahant Rajesh Bittoo said that devotees’ offerings carry sacred intent, and any activity perceived as misaligned with Sanatan Dharma values calls for scrutiny. He stressed the importance of transparency and accountability regarding the use of such funds, adding that devotees deserve clarity and assurance that their contributions are being used for pious and community-centric purposes.

Col Sukhvir Singh Mankotia, Convenor of the Sangarsh Samiti, demanded an urgent meeting with the Shrine Board’s Core Group to discuss a clear roadmap for corrective action. He said safeguarding public faith must remain the first priority and called for immediate stakeholder engagement to address concerns.

The allied organisations expressed complete solidarity with the Sangarsh Samiti and announced that delegations will soon meet with prominent spiritual figures, including those associated with major religious forums, to incorporate the issue into broader religious discourse. Leader after leader reiterated that they will continue their movement until the Shrine Board’s policies are realigned with the sentiments and expectations of the Hindu community.

Senior religious figures including Mahant Ramnarayan Das Shastri, Mahamantri Mohan Bharti, and Swami Somanand Maharaj pledged continuing support, while representatives of Sanatan Dharam Sabha and other community bodies also participated in the press interaction.

Meanwhile, the Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) staged a forceful protest demonstration against the Shrine Board, alleging discriminatory practices in the admission process at the SMVD Medical College. A large gathering of YRS volunteers demanded an immediate review of the MBBS selection list, asserting that institutions sustained by the devotion of Hindu community members must ensure fair opportunities for local Hindu youth.

YRS President Mandeep Singh Rimpy claimed that the admission controversy reflects systemic insensitivity and urged the Shrine Board to introduce mandatory provisions granting priority to Hindu students across all academic programmes under its jurisdiction. He warned that the agitation would intensify across the Union Territory if prompt corrective steps are not taken. Leaders Rajan Singh Happy and Vikram Singh Vicky also addressed the gathering.

Separately, Mission Statehood President Sunil Dimple held a protest seeking transparency and accountability over the admission controversy, adding further momentum to the rising public outcry.
