Reopening of Doodhpathri, Yousmarg Hinges on Security Nod, Govt Informs MLA Mehdi

Tourism revival efforts underway as safety review holds the fate of popular destinations

Jammu, Feb 13: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the reopening of tourist hotspots Doodhpathri and Yousmarg will depend on security approvals, a matter outside the jurisdiction of the Tourism Department.

Replying to a query from Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, the government said the issue has been forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam for necessary action.

Officials acknowledged that recent developments in the tourism sector have led to a decline in visitor numbers, affecting the livelihoods of those dependent on the industry. To counter the slowdown, the department has launched promotional drives, improved infrastructure, and initiated confidence-building measures aimed at attracting travellers.

Authorities noted that multiple promotional events and thematic festivals have been held both within the Union Territory and across the country, while the ongoing winter season has begun to witness a rise in tourist activity.

The government reiterated that these destinations will reopen only after the required security clearances are obtained, with priority placed on ensuring the safety of tourists and local residents.
