02-06-2023 : Jammu, renowned for its innovative and revolutionary initiatives, has witnessed an extraordinary success story as the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) reaps the benefits of its strategic measures. Mayor Rajinder Sharma proudly announced that these efforts have resulted in a remarkable revenue of Rs 1.44 crore.
Speaking at a press conference, Mayor Sharma disclosed that the JMC undertook the ambitious task of removing approximately 5000 hoardings of various sizes from electric poles throughout the city. This significant step cleared the way for the utilization of 170 sites measuring 20 by 10, along with 7 Variable Message Display (VMD) sites, leading to a substantial increase in revenue generation.
“We used to generate an average monthly revenue of Rs 12 lakh in the past,” Mayor Sharma revealed. “However, our recent actions have doubled this amount to Rs 24 lakh per month, resulting in an annual figure of Rs 1.44 crore.”
Previously, the CAPEX expenditure for all the 75 wards in 2018 stood at Rs 1.43 crore. Mayor Sharma proudly proclaimed that their recent move has surpassed the revenue generated in 2018, reflecting a significant milestone in their financial growth. He emphasized that this increased revenue would now be dedicated to the welfare of the public, marking a shift from its previous allocation to the pockets of officials.
Mayor Sharma highlighted his unwavering commitment to accountability and transparency since assuming office as the head of the Urban Local Body (ULB). He emphasized his relentless efforts to ensure that every penny of public funds is utilized effectively, actively seeking ways to enhance JMC’s revenue.
“As a leader, I have strived to cultivate a work culture that promotes transparency and accountability within the ULB,” Mayor Sharma declared. “This has led to a consistent growth in public confidence, bolstered by our strengthened democratic principles.”
Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s working style, Mayor Rajinder Sharma expressed his intention to introduce further transformative changes in the ULB. His ultimate goal is to provide the public with the amenities and facilities befitting a developed city, ensuring Jammu’s continuous progress and prosperity.
