Reverse the Environmental Degradation

The theme for World Environment Day 2022 is “Only One Earth,” which emphasizes living responsibly and in harmony with nature. The Government of Sweden hosted World Environment Day 2022 on June 5 in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). This time, World Environment Day under the theme of ‘Only One Earth’, highlighted the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature by bringing transformation changes -through policies and our choices – towards cleaner, greener lifestyles.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the UT administration also organized many such programmes across all the administrative units in which a large number of social organizations, political organizations, educational organizations as well as many other government departments participated. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha gave awards and unveiled the prototype of the GreenLIFE mobile application at the event. Wetlands Inside Forest, Geospatial Monitoring of Dal Lake, Framework Note on Disaster Resilient Cities for Jammu & Srinagar, ‘Jungle JaivVividhata’ by J&K Biodiversity Council, Nature Asset Maps of Smart Cities of Jammu & Srinagar, short films and videos on Wetlands of Forests, and ‘One Beat Guard, One Village Program’ were among the publications released to commemorate the day.

The environment delivers us with resources for production, which includes renewable and non-renewable resources. The environment includes sun, water, air, and soil without which human life would not exist, certainly not possible by all means. It withstands life by providing genetic diversity and biodiversity. Mountains, rivers, deserts, lakes, and a variety of other beautiful natural features exist solely due to the natural environment. Climate change, loss of nature and biodiversity, pollution, and waste are all signs that the Earth is changing and becoming more dangerous every day. At the same time, billions of people lack access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, health care, and education. The energy and food crises that have followed the Covid-19 outbreak, as well as the rise in global conflict, especially between Russia and Ukraine, are all causes of concern. The only solution to come out of this problem is to reform our economies and communities to make them more inclusive, rational, and environmentally conscious. We must shift our focus from causing harm to bringing healing to the planet. To progress to a better, more sustainable future where everyone can prosper, we must conserve what we have and restore what we have lost. The theme of this year’s campaign, “Only One Earth,” emphasizes the importance of restoring the balance with the environment by radical changes in how people eat, live, work, and move. This handbook outlines measures that communities, organizations, and individuals can take. It emphasizes the critical role of governments, cities, businesses, faith groups, and financial institutions in reforming consumption, production, infrastructure, investment, and land use to enable sustainable living. It also provides case studies of individuals who have made personal decisions to impact change and take action. Only one Earth is a slogan used to raise public awareness about the importance of the environment and why we should protect our mother Earth. The tagline “Only one Earth” encourages people to safeguard the planet and its natural resources in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for future generations. As far as we know, Earth is the only planet in the universe with life. Mankind should save the Earth so that our future generations can live in a safe environment. We can conserve the planet by preserving trees, natural flora, water, natural resources, and power, among other things. Everyone should strictly adhere to all available steps to reduce pollution and global warming. Only One Earth is a non-profit organization that promotes worldwide environmental transformation. The campaign highlights climate, environmental, and pollution action while encouraging people from all walks of life to live sustainably

The only planet that sustains life is Earth. It is one of a kind and the only place we have. It will imperil our existence if we do not protect it. The survival of life on Earth is contingent on a number of factors. Land, water, soil, forests, and other natural resources are all necessary for life on Earth to thrive. But, rapid industrialization, unrestricted exploitation of natural resources, deforestation, pollution, climate change, and other factors have caused havoc on the Earth’s ecosystems. Earth serves as a continual reminder that, today more than ever, ecological balance requires sustainable living. It allows us to focus on the necessity of environmental responsibility, as well as maintaining and protecting nature and natural life. World Environment Day encourages us to work toward a more environmentally friendly economy. Its goal is to promote human well-being without adding to the environmental burden. The theme of sustainability lies at the heart of the World Environment Day celebrations, and it is through sustainability that we may be able to bring about the economic improvements that would lead to a better society. World Environment Day promotes environmental education and encourages residents to adopt healthy practices that will help to maintain the environment. A year-long regular campaign with public and government departments’ participation to prevent pollution of various nature is the need of the hour besides fixing the targets of the higher number of tree plantations in comparison to the trees being cut. Further, more and more efforts should be made to green the Jammu and Srinagar city which is being converted day by day into a concrete jungle.
