Rodrygo and Mbappe Inspire Real Madrid to Crucial La Liga Victory

Victory narrows gap on Barcelona to four points, while Rodrygo exits with a calf injury.

India, Dec 15 : Real Madrid secured a crucial 2-1 away win against Alaves on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo scoring to trim the La Liga lead of FC Barcelona to just four points.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a superb run and a precise finish into the top corner. Alaves’ Carlos Vicente equalised in the 68th minute after a goal initially ruled offside was overturned by VAR. Rodrygo restored Real Madrid’s advantage in the 76th minute following a slick setup from Vinicius Jr but was forced off due to a calf injury.

Barcelona maintained pressure at the top with a 2-0 home win over Osasuna, as Raphinha netted both goals in the final 20 minutes  first from distance and then close-range.

Sevilla dominated struggling Oviedo 4-0, effectively deciding the game by the 22nd minute through goals from Akor Adams and Djibril Sow. Batista Mendy added a third in the 51st minute, and Chidera Ejuke sealed the win in stoppage time. Oviedo’s woes were compounded by David Carmo’s red card in the 82nd minute, and coach Luis Carrion was subsequently sacked.

Celta secured their first home league win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. Williot Swedberg and Jones El-Abdellaoui scored in the 48th and 55th minutes, while Athletic’s Nico Williams missed a penalty.

Meanwhile, the match between Levante and Villarreal was postponed due to heavy rainfall in the Valencia region.
