Jammu, Dec 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government has granted Executive Magistrate powers to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) and Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) within their respective jurisdictions across the Union Territory.
An official notification from the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs cited sub-section (1) of Section 14 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, as the legal basis for the decision.
The move authorises RTOs and ARTOs to exercise executive powers in their territorial jurisdictions until further orders. The government stated that the measure aims to strengthen administrative enforcement and ensure effective implementation of the new legal framework in Jammu and Kashmir.
