Ruskin Bond Hospitalised in Dehradun Family Assures Fans He Is Stable

Family says veteran writer is stable and likely to be discharged in the coming days

New Delhi, Dec 13 :Renowned author Ruskin Bond has been admitted to a hospital in Dehradun after experiencing discomfort in his leg. The 91 year old writer is currently under medical supervision and receiving treatment, his family confirmed.

According to family members, weakness in one of Bond’s legs has caused difficulty in walking. Doctors are monitoring his condition, and he is expected to be discharged within the next few days.

Born on May 19, 1934, in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, Ruskin Bond is one of India’s most celebrated literary figures. Known for his evocative storytelling, Bond’s works often draw inspiration from the serene landscapes of the hills and the quiet charm of small-town life.

He published his debut novel, The Room on the Roof, at the age of 17, which went on to win the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957. Over a prolific career spanning several decades, Bond has written more than 500 short stories, novels, essays, poems, and children’s books.

Some of his most acclaimed works include Vagrants in the Valley, A Flight of Pigeons, The Blue Umbrella, and The Room on the Roof. His popular short stories such as The Night Train at Deoli, Time Stops at Shamli, and Delhi Is Not Far continue to resonate with readers across generations.

Bond’s simple yet deeply nostalgic writing style has earned him numerous accolades, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan. Loved by readers of all ages, his literary legacy remains an enduring part of Indian literature.
