Russell Brand Denies All Charges as He Testifies in Rape and Sexual Assault Trial

Actor comedian tells Southwark Crown Court the allegations have had a devastating impact on his life as six women testify during the trial.

LONDON, Oct 28: Actor comedian Russell Brand pleaded not guilty to multiple sexual offence charges at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, declaring that the proceedings marked a day for truth and justice.

Brand, 51, made the remarks while arriving at the London court alongside his wife, Laura Gallacher. Taking the witness stand, he swore an oath, confirmed his full name as Russell Edward Brand and denied all seven charges against him.

The charges comprise three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.

Responding to questions from his lawyer, Ian Winter, Brand described the impact of the allegations as devastating, saying they had taken over his life.

“My entire life has been consumed by these events, these allegations, these accusations,” he told the court.

The trial has heard evidence from six women who have accused Brand of sexual misconduct allegedly committed between 1999 and 2009. Prosecutors spent the first two weeks presenting their case and outlining the allegations before the comedian gave his evidence.

Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones described Brand as ruthless, calculating and manipulative, arguing that the prosecution’s case portrayed him as a sexual predator. The allegations remain subject to the jury’s consideration.

Brand first gained widespread recognition in the early 2000s through his provocative stand-up comedy, television appearances and BBC radio programme. His career later expanded into Hollywood, where he appeared in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.

He was also briefly married to American pop star Katy Perry. Known for his outspoken public persona and past struggles with substance abuse, Brand has since distanced himself from conventional entertainment media.

In recent years, he has relocated to Florida and developed a substantial online audience through videos covering wellness, conspiracy theories and his religious beliefs.

The court proceedings continue as the jury considers the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defence. Brand denies all charges against him.
