Russia and Ukraine Exchange Massive Drone Strikes Amid Stalled Peace Efforts

Air defence systems activated across regions

Russia, May 12 : Russia and Ukraine launched another wave of large-scale drone attacks overnight, further escalating tensions despite renewed diplomatic efforts by international mediators.

Officials from both countries reported damage to critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, transport networks and residential areas. Air defence systems were activated across several major cities as explosions were heard deep inside contested territories.

The continuing use of long-range drones has transformed the conflict into a sustained technological and strategic battle, with both sides increasingly targeting logistical and industrial assets far from frontline positions.

International observers expressed concern that repeated escalations may weaken already fragile diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a temporary ceasefire. European leaders have continued urging both sides to resume direct negotiations while humanitarian organisations warned about worsening civilian conditions.

Military analysts believe drone warfare is likely to remain central to the conflict due to its relatively lower operational cost and high psychological impact.
