Moscow, Nov 8: Russia has expressed serious concern over US President Donald Trump’s recent statement on resuming nuclear testing. Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, described the announcement as a matter of “grave concern,” while noting that the full implications are still unclear.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Nebenzia said, “In response to our testing of new cruise missiles and nuclear capable underwater weapons, President Trump stated that the United States is considering resuming nuclear testing. This is a serious statement. The consequences are still unknown.”
He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Russian Security Council, emphasizing that such statements must be treated with utmost seriousness. “We must be prepared for such a development,” Nebenzia said.
Last week, Trump instructed the US Department of War to immediately resume nuclear testing, citing other nations’ weapons activities and stating it was “appropriate” for the United States to maintain parity.
