Kyiv, July 1: Russia launched another wave of missile and drone attacks on several Ukrainian cities overnight, causing damage to civilian infrastructure and renewing international concern over the prolonged conflict. Ukrainian officials reported that air defence systems intercepted many incoming projectiles, but residential buildings, transport facilities, and energy infrastructure were also hit.
The latest attacks come as diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire remain stalled. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western allies to accelerate military assistance, particularly advanced air defence systems and long-range weapons.
Russia maintained that its military operations were aimed at strategic and military targets, while Ukraine accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian areas. Emergency services continued rescue operations in affected regions, with authorities assessing casualties and infrastructure damage.
The renewed escalation has prompted fresh reactions from NATO members, the European Union, and the United Nations, all of which reiterated calls for an end to hostilities and renewed diplomatic engagement.
Analysts believe the latest strikes indicate that neither side is prepared to reduce military operations despite repeated international appeals for peace.
