JAMMU, Jun 10: A rusted mortar shell was recovered from a village in the Bishnah area of Jammu district on Wednesday and later disposed of safely by security personnel, officials said.
The explosive object came to light when labourers engaged in construction work were filling the foundation of a house with soil in Kothey Sanian village. The workers immediately alerted authorities after noticing the suspicious item.
A bomb disposal squad was subsequently dispatched to the site and secured the area before shifting the shell to a safe location. The device was later destroyed in a controlled explosion in an open field.
Officials said the operation was completed without any loss of life or damage to property. Further details about the origin and age of the shell were not immediately available.
