Chandigarh, Feb 12 : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab following a firing incident that targeted migrant labourers in Moga, raising concerns over the state’s law and order situation.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal described the episode as a “sinister move to destabilise Punjab,” alleging that growing lawlessness and gangster activity point to a deeper conspiracy. In a post on X, Badal accused the ruling dispensation of being directly responsible for the prevailing conditions and warned that immediate intervention was necessary to prevent the state from slipping into division and chaos.
He further claimed that the government’s functioning was influenced by party leadership at the national level and criticised what he called aggressive political tactics, urging authorities to act swiftly before tensions escalate.
Echoing similar concerns, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar condemned the attack and called on the state government to “wake up from its slumber.” He alleged that Punjab had already witnessed businesses being targeted, discouraging fresh investment, and said the latest violence against migrant workers risked further damaging the state’s social fabric.
Jakhar emphasised that migrant labourers play a crucial role in Punjab’s agriculture and industry, adding that attempts to create divisions run contrary to the region’s cultural and spiritual traditions. He urged the administration to take firm action against those responsible for disturbing peace and undermining public safety.
