Rajasthan, Jan 31 : The unexplained death of noted religious storyteller and devotional singer Sadhvi Prem Baisa has prompted decisive action from Rajasthan Police, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to conduct a comprehensive probe into the case.
Jodhpur Police Commissioner Omprakash confirmed that a nine-member SIT has been formed to investigate all possible angles surrounding the incident. Speaking to IANS, he said statements of individuals closely associated with Sadhvi Prem Baisa are being recorded as part of the inquiry.
“We are examining the case from every perspective. The investigation is ongoing,” the Commissioner said, adding that the role of an injection administered shortly before her death is among the key aspects under scrutiny.
The SIT, headed by ACP Chhavi Sharma, is probing whether the injection was given on medical advice, what substance was administered, and if it had any direct or indirect connection to the death. Compounder Devi Singh, who allegedly administered the injection, has been detained and questioned.
Police officials have not ruled out the possibility of a larger conspiracy at this stage. Investigators are analysing technical evidence, including call detail records, CCTV footage from the Sadhana Kutir Ashram on Pal Road, and other digital inputs to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to her death.
The probe also extends to internal matters related to the ashram. Police are examining financial transactions, operational affairs and potential internal disputes. Statements of her father, Viramnath, and other ashram associates will also be recorded.
Authorities are awaiting the post mortem report, which is expected to shed light on the exact cause and timing of death.
Sadhvi Prem Baisa, a native of Pareu village in Balotra, rose to prominence despite early personal hardships. After losing her mother at a young age, she trained under spiritual leaders Sant Rajaram and Sant Kriparam Maharaj, eventually gaining recognition across Rajasthan for her Bhagwat Katha recitals and devotional singing.
Her ashram, Sadhana Kutir, was inaugurated by prominent personalities, including yoga guru Baba Ramdev. The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked widespread concern, with the SIT now tasked with determining whether it was a natural death or the result of a deeper conspiracy.
