Sagar expresses grief over tragic loss of lives, property caused by flash floods

Srinagar, 30 Aug: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Ali Mohammad Sagar Saturday expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and property caused by the recent flash floods in the Jammu region and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the affected families.

He made these comments while meeting several public and individual delegations at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, in Srinagar.

Sagar lauded the efforts of NC Vice President and HCM Omar Abdullah and his cabinet colleagues for their timely response to the flood crisis. He praised the proactive measures taken by the Omar-led government since its formation, acknowledging their quick and effective outreach to the affected areas. “The government’s timely intervention in providing relief to the flood victims has been commendable,” Sagar said, appreciating the government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the calamity.

During the meeting, Sagar also raised concerns about the current hybrid model of governance in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed his apprehension regarding the limitations imposed on the elected government and stressed the need for full autonomy in governance. “A one-size-fits-all approach does not work in Jammu and Kashmir,” he noted, highlighting the unique geographical, political, and socio-economic challenges of the region. Sagar emphasized that an empowered, elected government is crucial for the effective governance of J&K.

MLA Salman Ali Sagar, PP Womens Wing Er. Sabiya Qadri, DP Srinagar Peer Afaq, and several other prominent leaders were also present on the occasion.
