Sajeeb Wazed Hits Back at Dhaka’s Extradition Demand: ‘India Saved My Mother’s Life’

Sajeeb Wazed Slams Bangladesh’s Extradition Request: Says ‘India Saved My Mother’s Life’

Bangladesh, Nov 19 : Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, has strongly criticised Bangladesh’s attempt to extradite the former prime minister from India, calling the process “legally untenable” and warning of rising terror threats emanating from his home country. Speaking to ANI, Wazed alleged that the judicial system in Dhaka has been compromised and said India has every reason to reject the request.

‘Militants Planned to Kill Her’: Wazed Thanks India for Safe Passage

Wazed, who has been living abroad since Hasina was flown to India in August 2024, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“India has essentially saved my mother’s life. If she hadn’t left Bangladesh, militants had planned on killing her,” he said, claiming extremist groups were preparing attacks at the time of her departure.

‘No Due Process in Dhaka’: Wazed Rejects Extradition Legitimacy

Calling the extradition attempt fundamentally flawed, Wazed said the interim administration in Dhaka has manipulated the system.
He alleged that 17 judges were terminated, laws were amended without parliamentary approval, and Hasina’s defence lawyers were barred from court proceedings.

“When there is no due process whatsoever, no country is going to extradite,” he said, adding that he is confident Indian authorities will dismiss the request.

Wazed Warns India of Growing Terror Threat From Bangladesh

Linking Bangladesh’s political turmoil to security risks, Wazed claimed that extremist networks have revived under the interim government, which he says released “tens of thousands of terrorists” convicted during his mother’s tenure.

He also alleged that Lashkar-e-Taiba is operating inside Bangladesh, connecting it to recent terror incidents in Delhi.
“I think Prime Minister Modi is very concerned about terrorism from Bangladesh,” he said.

2024 Bangladesh Unrest Was a ‘Political Coup’, Not Uprising, Says Wazed

While acknowledging mistakes in handling early protests, Wazed insisted the July 2024 upheaval was not a mass movement but a “coordinated political coup” infiltrated by armed groups.

Pakistan’s ISI Supplied Weapons During Unrest, Claims Wazed

Wazed further alleged foreign involvement, saying weapons used during the protests were “without a doubt” supplied by Pakistan’s ISI.

Wazed Cites Trump’s Remarks on Alleged US Role in Regime Change

Referring to remarks attributed to Donald Trump, Wazed said millions of dollars were channelled through USAID for regime change in Bangladesh. He claimed the Trump administration appeared more alert to the rise of extremism in the region.

‘Tens of Thousands Detained’: Wazed Accuses Yunus Govt of Mass Arrests

Wazed said the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has detained “tens of thousands of political prisoners”, including over 100 former MPs.
“You’ve had an unelected government in power for more than a year and a half. Everything has been done undemocratically,” he said.

Economic Progress Shows Corruption Was Not Systemic, Wazed Says

Rejecting corruption charges against Hasina’s administration, Wazed said Bangladesh’s development — from improved corruption rankings to progress toward “Asian tiger” status — proves the system was not fundamentally corrupt.

“This level of growth would not have been possible with major corruption,” he said.

Dhaka Yet to Respond

The interim government in Bangladesh has not responded to Wazed’s claims about judicial interference, alleged extremist releases, or mass detentions.
