Mumbai, Mar 16 : Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama, originally titled Battle of Galwan, has been officially retitled Maatrubhumi, following criticism from Chinese experts over historical accuracy and perceived distortions. The reasons for the title change have not been fully disclosed.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi is based on the 2020 India-China standoff in the Galwan Valley and draws from excerpts of Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless 3. The new title is derived from a song in the film, sung by Arijit Singh and featuring Salman Khan alongside Chitrangada Singh, and carries the tagline, “May war rest in peace.”
The film’s release has been postponed several times. Initially slated for April, the makers delayed it to avoid clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla, now targeting the Independence Day weekend. However, no official release date has been confirmed following the title change.
Salman Khan is presenting the project under his own banner, with production by Salma Khan and music composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
