Samba Police Crack Gold Theft Case, Accused Arrested with Stolen Ornaments

Police Solve Residential Temple Theft, Probe Continues

SAMBA, February 16: In a swift breakthrough, Samba Police have solved a theft case involving gold ornaments reported at Police Station Ghagwal. One accused has been arrested and approximately 10 grams of stolen gold jewellery, valued at around Rs 1,60,000, have been recovered from his possession.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident came to light on the intervening night of January 27 and 28, 2026, when a complaint was received through WhatsApp on the official mobile number of Police Station Ghagwal. The complainant, Advocate Dharamvir, son of Tulsi Das, a resident of Harsath in tehsil Ghagwal, district Samba, reported the theft of gold ornaments from a Kali Mata temple located within his residential premises.

The stolen items included a gold tikka, gold nath, gold chain and a gold locket, all of which were part of the temple’s adornments. Acting promptly on the complaint, police registered FIR No. 12/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Ghagwal and initiated an investigation.

During the course of inquiry, a dedicated police team conducted sustained efforts, including verification of local suspects and gathering of technical and human intelligence. These efforts led to the apprehension of a suspect who, during sustained questioning, admitted his involvement in the theft.

The accused has been identified as Jatin Kumar, son of Bharladh Bhagat, a resident of Ghagwal in district Samba. Police have recovered all the stolen gold ornaments weighing approximately 10 grams and have seized them as evidence in the case.

Officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any other similar incidents. The timely resolution of the case has been appreciated locally, with police reiterating their commitment to ensuring safety and swift action in matters concerning theft and crime in the district.
